Retina Italia is an umbrella organisation membership to which is only available to self-help, non-profit groups supporting and assisting people in Italy suffering from RDD’s.
Retina Italia co-ordinates the activities of the member organisations, publishes a national newsletter, named “Lumen”, which is issued three times a year, sponsors and hosts meetings between the scientific community and patients and scientific conferences. Retina Italia keeps constantly in touch with national and international units doing research into RDD’s. It also liaises with the Italian Ministry of Health and other public authorities to fulfil the needs of the visually impaired as much as possible.
Retina Italia provides guidelines to the patients with regards to genetic counselling and ongoing clinical trials.
Retina Italia’s communication aims to promote media awareness as well as to implement fund-raising events.
