RESEARCH
Fighting Blindness is an Irish charity funding world-leading research into cures for blindness - an incredible achievement for an organisation that was started by a group of Irish patients just over 25 years ago.
Researchers funded by Fighting Blindness were the first in the world to discover the gene reponsible for the blinding condition Retinitis Pigmentosa. Since then we have relentlessly pursued solutions to different causes of blindness and are now close to cures for some sight loss conditions. Our work focuses on retinal degenerative diseases.
We are indebted to all the hard-working scientists who have dedicated their time, energy and expertise to Fighting Blindness research over 27 years.
Fighting Blindness funds research projects in our own Vision Research Institute in addition to universities, hospitals and colleges nationally and Internationally. Since 2005 we have invested over Euro 3 million in research.
